what

I had moved on to my new group of exhibit and environmental design by now. We first got a floor layout from the design office of 1509. Some images of the Gallery 5 library were also looked at but they weren’t really helpful. An appointment with Amanda who directs Gallery 5 was made for next Wednesday so we could talk about our plan and check out the space. Our group brainstormed briefly on what direction we wanted to go with the exhibit. It was mostly debated on if we should do a sterile white gallery so the work is the main focus or should we do something a little more fun but kind of cheesy like hay and pitch forks. We also plan on going to look at the 1509 space in person and as a group on Monday.

so what

Planning the exhibit space is a useful experinment in kind of applying design principles to something that, at least myself, hasn’t really studied. I have studied poster design but never really how one could interact with a space. We are also gaining experience in setting up appointments with outside clients. Amanda deals with many well known professional artists and I feel like we must present ourselves in a semi professional manner at least.

now what

Something that really amazed me about graphic design was that it really could be anything. It can be really fun to apply design principles to all kinds of related things. In a professional career, I may be asked to help with something that I may not have specifically studied but I can bring in many good ideas and concepts to the project. And no design job will ever involve just myself, so I must learn to interact with outside individuals and respect the manner in which they would like to be treated.
