what
Well we took a group photo today. I don’t think I will derive much from a group photo but I did get to reference all of my elementary school experience of standing in the back end being taller then anyone else. I briefly took a break from the exhibit design to work with the message group discussing community partners and a press release. We will meet again out of class on Thursday. We decided on a aesthetic of a serious white gallery with small accents like wooden crates or pallets. After the group photo, we took a trip to 1509 to evaluate the space. We decided on the number and placement of signage and also formed a rough idea of where everything will be. Two different layouts with small changes had to be made in case more or less people show up. At the time we weren’t sure if the veggie bus would be coming or not.
so what
Dealing with schedules of outside indivduals was the hardest part of today. All of the community partners were either usure or just wanted to commit a maybe to the event. In the real world this is probaby a common problem working with outsiders. They probably aren’t as concerned with the event as you and dont want to commit themselves. You must get them excited to be a part of it and show them what they stand to benefit.
now what
I realized that in the future it can be very important to evaluate the setting in which your work will be. We had many notions on what we wanted to do before even seeing the space but they quickly changed and were easier to deal with after seeing the space. This can be applied to many forms of design, even say publication work. A magazine looks one way on screen but its feeling can always change when your actually holding it.
